China Imposes Sanctions on Ex-Philippine Senator
The sanctions will prevent Tolentino from entering mainland China, as well as the Special Administrative Regions of Hong Kong and Macao.
"For quite some time, driven by selfish interests, a handful of anti-China politicians in the Philippines have made malicious remarks and moves on issues related to China that are detrimental to China's interests and China-Philippines relations," a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson stated.
The spokesperson emphasized China’s unwavering stance, noting that the country is "firmly" committed to safeguarding its national sovereignty, security, and development interests.
The sanctions come amid ongoing disputes between China and the Philippines, particularly concerning territorial claims in the South China Sea.
Tolentino, 65, served as a senator from 2019 to 2025.
At the time of writing, the Philippines had not yet issued an official response to China's latest action.
